My Process

01

Sketching

Using 3D models to help with anatomy, I create a sketch using blueline. I start with the basic composition and then add details. I transform the sketches' selections to ensure the subjects are emphasized or positioned in an impactful way.

02

Lining

Next, I create a cleaner lineart. Often, it is the same layers as the sketches, but I use harder brushes and pay closer attention to consistency, texture, and line quality. I also start adding block colors at this stage.

03

Rendering

Once I am comfortable with the anatomy and clarity of the forms, I start rendering using watercolor brushes, airbrushes, and textured brushes. The most important parts of this stage are paying attention to where the lightsources are and what the general mood of the piece is.

04

Iterating

Finally, the piece is imported into a game engine and tweaked. For example, a piece may be separated into background layer, shadows layer, and individual character layers. This is so that animation can be applied to the characters in the game. Depending on the game's needs, the piece will continue to be revised until the game is finished.
